—Hyper-growth Company Capitalizes on Global Expansion, New Markets, Products, Partnerships—
Marlboro, Mass.—October 17, 2005—Egenera Inc., a global leader in utility computing, today further validated its rapid expansion. In the past 18 months, Egenera has tripled its customer base by expanding its geographic reach and diversifying into new verticals, solidifying its place as one of the fastest growing and most successful companies in technology history.
"In less than four years, we have proven our value to scores of the world's largest and most sophisticated datacenters," said Bob Dutkowsky, chairman, president and CEO, Egenera. "We are leading a sea change in enterprise computing and displacing the old guard by delivering the value and simplicity customers demand. And now, we're delivering that value to markets we didn't even address a year ago. For example, 75 percent of Egenera customers are now outside financial services versus 35 percent in 2003. During the past year, we've had major wins in telecommunications, government, hosting, banking and healthcare-putting our diversification strategy into action with compelling results."
"Over the past year, Egenera has pushed to increase and diversify its client base by focusing on a pragmatic vision of simplified datacenter operations," said John Humphreys, research manager with IDC. "The next step will be to amplify its visibility in its efforts to transform enterprise computing."
Egenera's growth has also been fueled by extensive diversification of its product line. In the past year and a half, the company has seen rapidly increasing adoption of its Microsoft® Windows® offering. Likewise, customers can choose Red Hat or SUSE Linux® and support for SolarisTM 10 will be delivered later this year. Egenera has also broadened its Processing BladeTM configurations-adding single- and dual-core AMD OpteronTM blades as well as four-processor blades with Intel® EM64T technology. Equally impressive enhancements have been made to the utility computing functionality of Egenera's industry-leading PAN ManagerTM software, including built-in high availability for virtual machine technology, support for chargeback and billing, and the ability to dynamically change server characteristics such as disks and networking on the fly.
"Three years ago, customers told us we had an 18-to-24-month lead over the competition," said Vern Brownell, Egenera founder and CTO. "It appears that many of our competitors have yet to make inroads into our leadership position. In fact, their overall lack of progress, coupled with the enhancements we've delivered, has likely extended our lead."
Further validating Egenera's market significance and customer traction, industry-segment leaders-including SAP, Intel, AMD, EMC, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle, Red Hat, Reuters, Siebel, Sybase and Unisys-have established or strengthened alliances with the company. Most recently, Egenera was named an SAP Global Technology Partner, becoming one of only 25 IT providers worldwide working with the software giant to deliver joint solutions.
The company has also expanded its global reseller network, most significantly entering into an exclusive OEM strategic alliance with Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) worth $300 million over approximately three years. Under the terms of the agreement, FSC has integrated the Egenera® BladeFrame® system into its PRIMERGY server portfolio. Valid throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the alliance brings even more flexibility and economic efficiency to FSC's Dynamic Data Center offering, a model in which server, networking and storage resources are virtualized and pooled.
Dutkowsky concluded, "There's a lot of talk these days about disruptive technology, but it means nothing if customers can't easily deploy and leverage new technology offerings to improve their business performance. Egenera simply delivers a better set of technologies to perform enterprise computing, and our success with marquee customers and blue-chip partnerships validates our differentiation, our value and, ultimately, our strategy. Clearly, Egenera is earning a spot as a leader in the enterprise computing arena."
